Your route

This particular cruise will depart from Oban on the CalMac ferry and sail to Coll, Tiree and Castlebay, returning to Oban.  You will depart Oban at 0700 returning at 2115.

Your Minicruise

Once at sea, the ORCA Wildlife Officer will be on deck, ready to meet you and talk you through the day ahead.  The Wildlife Officer’s introduction will last for 10-15 minutes, covering ORCA’s work with CalMac and the species that frequent Scotland’s west coast – from Basking Sharks to Risso’s Dolphins. They will also share tips to help you spot and identify local wildlife, increasing your chances of seeing the whales, dolphins, or porpoises during your time in the area.

You’ll also be able to learn about the data that’s collected from CalMac vessels and how that’s used to study the different species and inform marine protection policies. Our Wildlife officer will spend the duration of the journey with passengers and will also share the ways we can all contribute to scientific research to help better understand our marine environment. As you travel, you’ll have the stunning sights and sounds of the west coast to enjoy, even if there’s no wildlife on show at that time.

Don’t forget to dress for the weather!

It can be quite blustery on the vessel. As well as a face covering to use in indoor areas of the vessel, in our ports and offices, you’ll need warm, waterproof layers and good footwear, even on days when the weather is good. Bring your binoculars as well as some sunglasses to protect your eyes from the glare of the sea.

Food onboard

If you’re hungry and thirsty after all that good, fresh air on deck – CalMac’s food and drink outlets offer a variety of options for you to purchase from the menu.  They’re proud to showcase some of the best local ingredients, makers, bakers, and suppliers. A great way for you to rest, refuel and round off your journey on Scotland’s west coast.

Please note that by booking this cruise you are agreeing to CalMac conditions of carriage which you can read here.
