Alnwick, Bamburgh & Holy Island

Duration: 11 Hours

The magical tour departs from our office 87 High Street on the Royal Mile at 08.30hrs – from Edinburgh we travel South, following the coast until we arrive at Lindisfarne* by way of a tidal causeway from the mainland. Lindisfarne Castle is one of the most distinct and picturesque features of the Island, being the place where Christianity first arrived in England and a place of pilgrimage ever since, along with Iona in Scotland. Visitors can visit the Priory if they wish.

Then we travel to the charming village of Bamburgh, whose Castle is perched on rocks at the edge of the sea. It is one of the most impressive castles in England with a collection of over 2000 items of historic interest.

We continue to the market town of Alnwick with its beautiful gardens and Castle. The gardens boast unique features including a treehouse, the Poison Garden and splendid architecture, all brought to life with water.

Alnwick Castle, known to many as “Hogwarts” after its appearance in the Harry Potter films, is considered one of the finest inhabited stately homes in England. It has magnificent spacious grounds, domineering medieval towers, a 14th century dungeon and beautiful state rooms with Italian Renaissance design.

Our tour returns to Edinburgh, arriving at 19.00hrs.
