Scotland’s Island Delicacies

When touring Scotland’s west coast islands, you’ll enjoy one of the richest historic and cultural experiences in the world. For residents and visitors alike however, an equally large draw is the variety and quality of traditional Scottish food.

Scotland's Island Delicacies

From seafood to ice cream, across Oban, Mull Iona you can sample some of the best cuisine that Scotland has to offer.

Oban

As might be expected, seafood is a staple of the highlands and islands diet. As the ‘Gateway to the Islands’, Oban boasts some of the freshest seafood in the country, with local haunt the Seafood Hut a particular local favourite.

There’s no standing on ceremony for locals or visiting patrons here. With the weather on your side, most people opt for casual dining right on the pier, a perfect round off after exploring the town.

For a more premium dining experience, the Hawthorn Restaurant’s diverse menu and eclectic atmosphere make it one of the most popular restaurants in the country.

Isle of Mull

In the summer months, tourists flock to Mull for the wildlife, the landscape…and the ice cream. The homemade ice cream is available from Isle of Mull Ice Cream on Tobermory High Street.

For more traditional Scottish fare the Hebridean Lodge offers visitors a varied menu alongside its famously great service.

Iona

Martyrs Bay Restaurant and Bar on Ion serves excellent fish and chips beside the water year round. The menu changes depending on the local catch, making each visit unique.
The Heritage Garden Cafe at Iona Heritage Centre is a great to stop-off for a casual lunch and, accompanied by a wonderful little gift shop, is well worth a visit.

Scotland’s west coast islands have all this and so much more to offer, with new and exciting bars, restaurants and cafes springing up regularly.
